Everything you need to know about Carbomer
Carbomer is a high-performance crosslinked acrylic polymer used to thicken, suspend and stabilize formulas. Once neutralized, it builds clear, fresh gels and smooth creams with consistent, repeatable viscosity.
What are the benefits of Carbomer for the skin?
Carbomer does not provide a direct treatment benefit.
It controls viscosity and helps keep other ingredients evenly distributed, giving the product a consistent feel during application.
When should you use Carbomer
Products containing Carbomer can be used in both morning and evening routines. There is no special application time or step because its function is already built into the complete formula.
Carbomer may be found in cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers, sunscreens, and other personal care products. Follow the product directions, as the formulator has already selected its appropriate level.
Is Carbomer suitable for sensitive skin
Carbomer can be used by a wide range of skin types, including sensitive skin, when formulated at an appropriate level. It does not work by exfoliating the skin.
Comfort still depends on the complete product. Perform a patch test before regular use if your skin is highly sensitive or easily reactive.
Can Carbomer be used with other actives?
Carbomer can be used in formulas with Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, and Panthenol. This combination does not require a special waiting period unless the product directions say otherwise.
Because its role is mainly to support the formula, this ingredient does not restrict the use of other actives. Final compatibility depends on the fully formulated product.
